According to trooper dispatch, a Soldotna woman awoke to find a man in her home during the early morning hours of Friday.
The woman told investigators that she woke up after 2 am in the morning on Friday to find a male in her home near the Arc Loop area.
The victim related to authorities that during the struggle with the man, the man pulled a knife on her, but the woman was able to escape from the man and the house. She reported that she was successful in getting to a family member’s home next door to report the crime.
Further investigation at the scene would find that the home’s power had been disabled. The investigation also determined that there was evidence of a struggle inside the home.
The woman told troopers that the man resembled a man that a family member had hired as a handyman. The identity of that man was discovered to be 38-year-old Soldotna resident Shane Heiman.
Soldotna police would later locate Heiman at a Funny River Road location. Heiman resisted as he was being placed under arrest but was subdued and transported to the WIldwood Pretrial Facility in Kenai.
Heiman was remanded to Wildwood Pretrial and ultimately charged with Burglary I, Assault III, Attempted Sexual Assault I, and Resisting Arrest. Heiman’s vehicle was also impounded by troopers pending investigation of the incident.
The woman escaped her encounter with only a scraped knee that she received when she fell escaping the intruder.
