A Soldotna man was arrested and charged with two counts of Assault III after a disturbance call on Saturday morning, the trooper dispatch revealed.
At 10:15 AM on Saturday, Soldotna-based troopers responded to the area of Sacaloff Drive after receiving a disturbance call, where they contacted 40-year-old Abelicio Gomez of Soldotna at his residence.
Earlier that morning, as a male and female, who remain unidentified, were walking down Sacaloff Drive with their dogs, dogs belonging to Gomez came out to the roadway and almost attacked their canines, the dispatch reported. The man reacted, and unholstered his pistol that he was carrying. He did not point the weapon at the animals or Gomez, according to troopers, but in response, Gomez went into his home and re-emerged with a shotgun, then walked out to the roadway with his weapon.
The couple retreated from the area and dialed 911 to report the incident.
Following their call, troopers responded to investigate. Troopers said that Gomez “had a cellphone and could have contacted 911 instead of grabbing his shotgun and running out onto the roadway to confront the male and female.”
As a result of their investigation, troopers arrested Gomez on double charges of Assault III and transported him to Kenai where he was remanded to the Wildwood Pretrial Facility.
Troopers report that the investigation has now been closed.
