Thorne Bay Man Suffers Critical Injuries in Head on Collision with Logging Truck

image08-04-2015 09.03.54After receiving a report of a head-on collision involving serious injuries at 5:14 am on Sunday, Alaska State Troopers from the Prince of Wales post responded to the Boundary Road near Klawock.

When troopers arrived on the scene, their investigation revealed that 18-year-old Thorne Bay resident, Jon Botello was traveling southbound on the road while driving a 1993 Nissan Pickup, “when for unknown reasons, crossed the centerline and drove into the northbound lane.”

63-year-old Timothy Burns was traveling northbound on the road in a 1996 Kenworth logging truck. Botello impacted Burns head-on.

Botello was not wearing a seatbelt according to troopers. He suffered critical injuries and was medevaced to Seattle for treatment of his injuries. Burns reported wearing his seatbelt and incurred no injuries.

Both vehicles were totaled in the collision that is still under investigation.

Botello’s next of kin were notified of the incident and Botello’s condition.
