The Alaska State Troopers received a report of a two vehicle accident at mile 345 of the Parks Highway at 3:29 pm Wednesday afternoon.
When they arrived at the scene, they found both vehicles in the ditch in the southbound side of the highway.
The driver of a 2003 Volkswagen passenger car, 21-year-old Fairbanks resident David A Yudin was declared deceased at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
The trooper investigation into the accident determined that Yudin was traveling southbound on the Parks Highway when he lost control of his vehicle on a curve. He careened out of conttrol just as a 2006 Kenworth tractor towing a tanker was approaching from the opposite direction.
25-year-old Michael S Luper, the driver of the Kenworth reported that he braked and attempted to take evasive action, but the passenger side of Yudin’s vehicle collided with Luper’s Kenworth.
After the collision, both vehicles slid into the ditch on the southbound side of the highway.
Yudin was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. Luper was not. Luper was not injured in the collision.
The State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage was notified and an autopsy will be performed on Yudin according to the trooper dispatch.
