Togiak Man Caught Hacking at Residence Door with Hatchet

burglary investigationAn early morning incident in the community of Togiak landed a man from that community in the Dillingham jail pending arraignment on several charges the troopers report.

At 4 am on Wednesday morning, Togiak Village Police Officers were called to a disturbance at a residence. When they arrived at the scene, they witnessed 19-year-old Richard Poulsen hacking at the front door with a hatchet, attempting to gain entrance to the residence.

The VPOs made contact with Poulson, who showed signs of intoxication, and placed him under arrest. Although Poulsen was unable to gain access to the house, he did considerable damage to the door. The occupants reported to the officers that Poulsen’s actions caused them to fear for their  safety.

Poulsen was arrested and charged with Attempted Burglary, Assault III, Criminal Mischief, IV, and Reckless Endangerment.

Poulsen was temporarily housed at the Public Safety Building before being transported to Dillingham and jail.
