Troopers Re-Arrest Willow Man after DOC Alerts them of False Identity

Alaska State Troopers report that they re-arrested a Willow man after finding that the name he was booked under was not in fact his real name. Additional charges were leveled at the man now identified as John Smith.

It was on Saturday night that troopers attempted to pull over a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero near mile marker 69.5 of the Parks Highway in Willow for reckless driving. The driver sped away and a short pursuit ensued.

Troopers contacted the man at his residence and the man identified himself as 45-year-old Chrispher Daniel Watkins. He was placed under arrest on charges of Reckless Driving, no insurance, and Failure to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer. He was transported to Palmer where he was remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility.

On Monday, the Department of Corrections contacted AST and informed them that the fingerprints obtained during booking at Mat-Su showed that he was in fact John Smith. “AST verified through previous booking and DMV photos that “Watkins” was Smith,” the trooper dispatch reported Tuesday.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]Troopers went to Smith’s residence at 9 pm on Monday night and re-arrested Smith on the additional charges of Making a False Report and No Valid Operator’s License. He was once again transported to Palmer and remanded with his bail set at $750.

AST says the investigation into the false ID is continuing.
