Two Armed Robbers Sentenced for August 2016 Anchorage Crime Spree

The two armed robbers who went on a crime spree in the city of Anchorage for a week in August of 2016, were sentenced to prison following their previous guilty pleas, the Department of Justice announced on Tuesday.

24-year-old Kaleem Tikori Fredericks and 25-year-old Calel Calvis Alexis Crofford were sentenced to 130 months and 10 years 2 days respectively on charges of armed bank robbery, brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, and Hobbs Act conspiracy. Fredricks was also convicted on the additional charge of  Hobbs Act Robbery.

It was from August 11th until August 18th that the two men went on an armed crime spree in the Anchorage area, robbing a Wells Fargo Bank, three liquor stores, and a gas station as well as a smash and grab robbery at a jewelry store. Their robberies included: 

  • Aug. 11, 2016 – Fredericks and Crofford robbed the Captain Sparrow Liquor Store located at 1100 W. Benson Boulevard, using a short-barreled shotgun;
  • Aug. 14, 2016 – Fredericks and Crofford robbed the Brown Jug Liquor Store located at 525 West Fireweed Lane, using a short-barreled shotgun;
  • Aug. 15, 2016 – Fredericks and Crofford robbed the Tesoro Gas Station located at 545 Muldoon Road, using a loaded short-barreled shotgun;
  • Aug. 15. 2016 – Fredericks and Crofford robbed the Brown Jug Liquor Store located at 119 Klevin Street, using a short-barreled shotgun;
  • Aug. 18, 2016 – Fredericks and Crofford stole from the Jewelry World kiosk at the Dimond Center Mall;
  • Aug. 18, 2016 – Fredericks and Crofford robbed Wells Fargo Bank, using a short-barreled shotgun and a BB gun.[xyz-ihs snippet=”adsense-body-ad”]The proceeds of the various robberies totaled approximately $30,954, money that they used to entertain themselves then purchase tickets to flee the Anchorage area, the prosecutors said in court.

Following their spree, on August 18th, the two men drove to Girdwood and disposed of the clothing worn in the robberies, a backpack and the shotgun before purchasing tickets to flee to St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands.

When Fredericks and Crofford went to the Ted Stevens International Airport to depart the state, they were recognized by Airport Police as the two suspects wanted in the various robberies. As a result, Anchorage and Airport Police, with the assistance of the FBI and ATF&E agents arrested the two men and transported them to the Anchorage Jail.
