An Anchorage woman was arrested in connection with a WAANT investigation that began this summer late in July when they seized seven and a half ounces of marijuana destined for Emmonak.
The investigation, that began almost four months ago, identified two people, 35-year-old Anchorage resident Melanie R. Washington, and 19-year-old Saint Michael resident Diana D. Shelikoff.
The investigation began when the Anchorage WAANT office received a report of a suspicious parcel at a local air freight carrier. They reported a package addressed to a recipient in Emmonak to the authorities, authorities responded and opened the parcel, finding 7.5 ounces of marijuana concealed inside. Suspects were identified at that time.
The months-long investigation led them to Washington. She wass arrested and charged with Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance IV and remanded to the Anchorage Correctional Center. Washington’s bail was set at $2,500 with a $250 performance bond.
The investigation also identified Shelikoff. A warrant was issued for Shelikoff’s arrest for her involvement.
