Wasilla SUV/Dirt Bike Collision Sends Biker to Hospital

A collision between a Ford Explorer and an off-road dirt bike put a Wasilla teen in the hospital with serious injuries on Tuesday.

Troopers received a call at 9:24 pm on Tuesday reporting a collision on Red Birch Street and Overby Street in Wasilla. When they responded to the scene, they conducted an investigation into the incident. It was determined that as the 2003 Ford Explorer entered the intersection at Overby and Red Birch after the stop sign, a dirt bike, operated by 18-year-old Gunar Cruikshank, was traveling west on Overby Street. The dirt bike collided with the left rear passenger door of the Ford Explorer.

Lifemed responded to the scene via helicopter and transported Cruikshank to the Providence Alaska Medical Center, where he was admitted with serious injuries. The investigation at the scene showed that Cruikshank was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The teen driver of the Ford Explorer was not injured in the incident.
