FAIRBANKS, ALASKA-Alaska State Troopers were notified that the 11-year-old pedestrian victim of yesterday's accident at the intersection of Loftus Road and Birch Lane died from injuries sustained from the incident at 5 minutes to midnight last night.
According to reports, the driver of the vehicle involved in the incident, Yiki Kim, age 68, ran through a stop sign, striking Jamison Thrun, an 11-year-old sixth grader yesterday morning at shortly after 8 am. After striking Thrun, Kim continued on through a yard, crashing through a fence and hitting another vehicle parked there. She did not come to a stop even then and continued on through another yard breaking through a second fence. At this point, according to eye-witness reports, Kim came to a stop, then proceeded to put her vehicle in reverse, striking a mailbox before heeding to a homeowner’s call to come to a stop. When troopers responded, they arrested and initially charged Kim with Assault in the First Degree and Reckless Driving.
The child, Jamison Thrun was transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital with life-threatening and ultimately fatal injuries.
As a result of Thrun’s death, Yiki Kim’s charges have been upgraded to Manslaughter.
