The Coast Guard and multiple agencies are searching for a man who fell into the water near the Port of Anchorage Sunday.

The 28-year-old man reportedly fell into the water from a skiff while trying to transfer to the tug Sam B.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Anchorage command center received a call just before midnight Sunday from personnel onboard the tug Sam B after the man fell into the water without a lifejacket and was overcome by the current. A request for assistance was immediately made to Air Station Kodiak, the Seward-based crew of the Coast Guard cutter Mustang, the Anchorage Fire Department, Anchorage Police Department, Alaska State Troopers and the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center at Joint Base Elemendorf-Richardson.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Kodiak, an H-60 Pave Hawk helicopter crew from the 210^th Rescue Wing at JBER and three Anchorage Fire Department vessels are on scene along with several good Samaritan vessels. Anchorage Police Department and airport police personnel from Ted Stevens International Airport are conducting shore side searches. The cutter Mustang is underway and headed for Anchorage to assist.

“The Coast Guard is working closely with our agency partners and good Samaritans to locate this man,” said Petty Officer 2^nd Class Nick Bizjak, a watchstander at the Sector Anchorage command center. “We have dispatched multiple assets to the area to aid in our response.”

Weather on scene is reported to consist of 20-knot winds and 1-2-foot seas. The water temperature is 46 degrees.
