Bureau of Highway Patrol pulled over a DUI driver with a weapon and children on board at 10 pm Sunday night.
After observing a Ford pickup weaving on Trunk Road near College Drive on Sunday night, troopers with the Bureau of Highway Patrol pulled over the driver and identified him as 33-year-old Palmer resident Joseph Cleaver. It was promply determined that Cleaver was driving under the influence and also found to have a loaded firearm in the vehicle as well as two children under the age of six in the pickup as well.
Further investigation of Cleaver would find that he had three previous DUIs, two of which had occurred in the last ten years, making this DUI a Felony. He was also found to be driving with a revoked license.
A passenger in the vehicle, 30-year-old Anchorage resident Darren Hildebrand, was found to be intoxicated as well and so was arrested for Misconduct Involving Weapons IV and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor II x2.
Cleaver was charged with Felony DUI, Misconduct Involving Weapons IV, Endangering the Welfare of a Minor I x2, Endangering the Welfare of a Minor II x2, and Driving with a Revoked License.
Both individuals were transported to the Mat Su Pretrial Facility where they were remanded. Cleaver’s bail was set at $7,500 and a Court Approved Third Party Custodian, and Hildebrand’s bail was set at $1,500.
