On Saturday, January 28th, David Canfield, a 49-year-old Anchorage Resident turned himself in to the Anchorage Jail in response to a $5,000 arrest warrant.
The warrrant was issued in connection to an investigation into child pornography. In September of last year, Anchorage Police Department Cyber-Crimes Detectives Mark Thomas and James Estes contacted Canfield while doing undercover work.
During the course of their work as Cyber-crimes detectives, Detectives Thomas and Estes received from Canfield images depicting sexual abuse of young children. This resulted in a search warrant being issued authorizing the search of Canfield’s apartment, computers and digital media. That warrant was served by the Anchorage Police Department and the Alaska Interneet Crimes Against Children Task Force, made up of local, state and federal agencies.
A forensic examination of Canfield’s computer by the ICAC Task Force found hundreds of images and videos of young children being abused.
Canfield was wanted on three counts of Distribution of Child Pornography, which is a B Felony, and six counts of Possession of Child Pornography, a C Class Felony.
The Alaska Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force is made up of Local, State, and Federal Agencies who develop effective responses to cyber enticement and child pornography cases. This support encompasses forensic and investigative components, training and technical assistance, victim services, prevention and community education.
