An Anchorage man dip-netting on the Copper River collapsed onto the sandbar there early Wednesday morning.
His brother from California, 62-year-old Romeo Rivera called in to the Alaska State Troopers at 6:50 am to report his brother’s dilemma. He reported that his brother was attempting to retrieve his dipnet when he went down to the ground and lost consciousness.

His brother reported that CPR was in progress. Kenny Lake EMS responded to the scene and continued to administer CPR without any success. 57-year-old Ramiro Rivera was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:20 am.
Rivera related to the troopers that his brother had a history of high cholesterol.
The State Medical Examiner and Ramiro’s next of kin were notified of his death. His body was released to his family. Ramiro’s remains were transported to the Crossroads Medical Center in Glennallen by Kenny Lake EMS to be held there until a funeral home could come to pick up his body and transport back to Anchorage.
Troopers report that no foul play was suspected in Ramiro’s death.
