UPDATE: Anchorage Man with Federal Arrest Warrants Apprehended after High Speed Chase through Wasilla

Troopers in Wasilla report that an Anchorage man took them on a high-speed chase through Wasilla and up KGB Road on Monday evening.

AST patrol officers spotted a white 2019 Kia Optima operated by 37-year-old Nathan Michael Klinger as the vehicle was leaving the Mat-Su Regional Hospital at 7:05 pm on Monday. Klinger was known by troopers to be wanted on federal warrants and was believed to be armed.

When contacted, Klinger initially stopped but then sped away from troopers at high speed. For the next 14 minutes, Klinger sped through town and KGB Road at speeds reaching 115 miles per hour, with troopers and Wasilla police giving chase.

Klinger eventually drove into a more sparsely populated area and a pursuing officer executed a PIT maneuver effectively bringing the vehicle chase to an end. Klinger jumped from his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was captured after a brief foot chase.

The suspect was taken to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility and remanded on the two outstanding federal arrest warrants for Felon in Possession and Distribution of Controlled Substances.

AST says that as the investigation into the incident continues, Klinger will face state charges in the current incident.

UPDATE:

On Tuesday afternoon, the Department of Justice reported that Klinger has been charged in federal court on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and drug distribution and will make his first court appearance at 1:30 pm on Thursday, April 18th.
