KODIAK, Alaska — A Coast Guard Station Juneau boatcrew assisted three boaters stranded on Bird Island near Juneau, Alaska, Friday.
The Station Juneau boatcrew recovered all three men and raft from Bird Island and transported them to Amalaga Harbor.
Coast Guard Sector Juneau watchstanders received notification from the men that they were stranded on the island due to weather and had limited survival gear. The Station Juneau boatcrew was directed to launch and transport the boaters.
“The Coast Guard would like to remind individuals to take emergency equipment while enjoying Alaska’s outdoors,” said Mr. Scott Giard, a Sector Juneau watchstander. “Emergency equipment should include communication devices, signaling devices, extra food and water, extra dry clothes and a personal locator beacon. It is also important to tell family, friends or the harbormaster your trip plans including departure and arrival times.”
