75-year-old North Pole resident, and former commander of the Fairbanks detachment of the Alaska State Troopers, Warren Tanner, was arrested on six counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor II on Friday.
According to arrest documents, Tanner is accused of abusing a 14-year-old girl for as far back as 2003. That abuse continued into 2011.
Tanner retired from the Alaska State Troopers in 1999 after 20 years with state enforcement. Prior to his retirement, Tanner was the commander of the Fairbanks detachment of the Alaska State Troopers. Tanner was also the Provost Marshal on Fort Wainwright prior to joining the troopers. He retired from that position in 1978. Throughout his career with the troopers, Tanner served primarily in rural posts.
Tanner, as the commander of the Fairbanks detachment, had commanded troopers as far north as Barrow and as far south as Healy.
According to the trooper dispatch, Tanner was arrested with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. U.S. Marshals were in Fairbanks on other business and were asked to assist with the arrest.
Tanner was arraigned on Saturday afternoon. He goes back to court on March 4th for a preliminary hearing.
