A Palmer juvenile took Alaska State troopers on a 63 mile-long high-speed chase along the Parks Highway early on Wednesday morning.
Troopers say that the pursuit began when an officer attempted to stop the juvenile for speeding, failure dim headlights, and erratic driving near mile 36 of the Parks Highway.
The juvenile ignored the trooper’s signals to stop and continued on the highway, driving recklessly at high speeds.
During the pursuit, the pursuing officer was informed that the vehicle the juvenile was driving, a 1997 Toyota RAV4, was reported as stolen to the Palmer Police Department just minutes earlier.
The chase finally ended near mile 99 of the Parks Highway after the juvenile crashed the vehicle. The juvenile was uninjured, and so was arrested and taken to the Palmer Juvenile Detention Center, where he was remanded on charges of Vehicle Theft I, Felony Eluding, Reckless Driving, and No Valid Operating License.
