A fire on Forss Street near mile three on South Tongass Highway took the life of a 77-year-old former Washington State woman on Thursday.

South Tongass Fire Department responded to the fire and requested aid from the Ketchikan Police and the North Tongass Fire Department on Thursday for the fire.

The department discovered the remains of the elderly woman in the aftermath of the fire that destroyed the home and one vehicle.

There were no other victims of the blaze.

Next of kin had been notified.

The State Fire Marshal responded to the scene and began his investigation into the incident.
