A two-vehicle collision involving a fatality was reported to Alaska State Troopers in Anchor Point on Tuesday evening at 5:35 according to the trooper dispatch.
Anchor Point-based troopers and officers from the Bureau of Highway Patrol in Soldotna responded to the scene to assist and investigate the incident that involved numerous injuries. Their investigation would reveal that a Suburu driven by 29-year-old Homer resident Kayla Rodasti was traveling southbound at mile 145 of the Sterling Highway near Anchor Point when she encountered ice on the road. Rodasti lost control of her vehicle and crossed into the northbound lane.
A Kia SUV driven by 24-year-old Cristina Reutov was traveling northbound at that location when the Suburu crossed into her lane. Reutov impacted the Suburu on the passenger side of the vehicle. Rodasti was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the SUV and all five of the passengers, two adults and three children, sustained injuries in the crash as well. All of the occupants of the SUV were buckled up but one child. All were transported to the South Peninsula Hospital in Homer with injuries. Two of the crash victims were then transported to Anchorage for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
The State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage was notified of Rodasti’s death and her remains were turned over to the Peninsula Memorial Funeral Home.
Rodasti’s next of kin were notified.
The investigation into the crash is continuing.
