Fairbanks Troopers Respond to Crash with Injuries after Receiving Reckless Driving Report

image08-04-2015 09.03.54Alaska State Troopers are conducting traffic control this morning on Roland Road near Haman Street in Fairbanks as  Fairbanks Police are documenting the scene of a crash scene using Total Station.

The traffic is down to one lane as the investigation at the scene is continuing.

A 1995 GMC pickup has crashed and rolled down a steep embankment and ended up in the ditch while the driver, 33-year-old Fairbanks resident James Stacy, was behind the wheel at approximately 2 am this morning.

Alaska State Troopers received a report on Stacy’s vehicle earlier in the morning at 1:32 am, the trooper dispatch reported. It was then that the caller reported the pickup driving off the road temporarily, then gaining the road again on Chena Pump Road. After getting back onto the road, the caller reported that the vehicle was then seen swerving through both lanes of traffic on the road.

Troopers responded to the area, but could not locate the reported vehicle, described as a dark-colored 1995 GMC pickup.

Less than a half-hour later, AST got the report of the pickup accident on Roland Road, which is in the vicinity of Chena Pump Road.

Stacy suffered critical injuries in the accident and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and transported him to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, troopers report.

UPDATE: James R. Stacy was pronounced deceased by medical staff at the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, his family was with him at the hospital when he passed. Stacy’s remains were requested by the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for autopsy.
