January 12, 2012, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell ordered state flags lowered to half-staff on Friday, January 13, in honor and memory of former Chief Justice of the Alaska Supreme Court Robert Boochever. He passed away in October. A memorial service is being held in Pasadena, California on Friday.
“Justice Boochever was a trail-blazing Alaskan, having been the first jurist from our state to serve on the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals,” Governor Parnell said. “Sandy and I send our condolences to his family and friends as they meet to remember him.”
Boochever served in the U.S. Army from 1941 until 1945, when he was discharged with the rank of captain. He served as Chief Justice of the Alaska Supreme Court from 1975 to 1978, and on the 9th Circuit from 1980 through 1986.
He is survived by four children and 11 grandchildren. State flags will be lowered on Friday in honor of Boochever. Flags will be raised to full-staff the following morning.
