A Palmer man who “collided several times with the cement barriers” on the Knik River Bridge was treated for his injuries before being arrested for driving impaired along with other charges on Monday. trooper dispatch reports.
Alaska State Troopers say that 25-year-old Jacob Wellberg of Palmer was traveling southbound at mile 32 of the Glenn Highway when he lost control of his 2003 Chevy Trailblazer, and crashed into the barriers several times before coming to a stop.
As a result of the repeated collisions, Wellberg sustained minor injuries. He was treated for his injuries at a local hospital. After his hospital release, Wellberg was arrested on charges of DUI. Wellberg would later refuse to submit to a chemical test of his breath and so was charged with that offense as well.
Further investigation of Wellberg’s past would find that he was on conditions of release for prior offenses in December of 2014 where he was charged with Assault IV and Disorderly Conduct. Wellberg was subsequently charged with Violations of Release Conditions.
Wellberg was transported to the Mat-Si Pretrial Facility in Palmer where he was remanded and his bail set at $5,000.
