Alaska State Troopers are continuing an investigation into a three-vehicle accident involving a trooper, charity vehicle and a third private vehicle last Saturday.
At 9:13 pm, an Alaska State Trooper responded to the scene of a vehicle/moose collision near Delta Junction at mile 1421. After arriving at the scene, Trooper Mau called a charity vehicle to pick up the moose.
The charity vehicle, a Infinity SUV, driven by 36-year-old Denis Khatman, arrived and parked on the eastbound shoulder with its four-way hazard lights illuminated. It was then that a Mercedes-Benz, driven by Delta Junction resident, 20-year-old Ivan Rybak, slammed into the SUV, ricocheting off and crossed the highway slamming into the trooper vehicle, which was parked on the the west-side of the highway with its emergency lights activated.
The impact caused the patrol vehicle to enter the ditch on that side of the highway. Trooper Mau, who was inside of his patrol vehicle, sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for treatment.
No other persons were injured in the accident.
The investigation into the crash continues.
