Anchorage Woman Arrested Following Northway Mall/Carrs Robbery

An Anchorage woman was arrested while partner got away in a vehicle after a reported shoplifting incident at the Northway Mall Carrs on Wednesday, APD reports.

APD was alerted to an incident at the mall by Carrs personnel and responded to the location just before 9 pm on Wednesday. When they arrived, thesecurity guard informed them that “they witnessed a male and female take merchandise from the store without paying for it.  When security approached the couple, the male pulled out a knife,” police reported.

The couple split up immediately after the encounter with the security guard. The male fled the scene in a vehicle while the woman left on foot.

Officers arriving at the scene spotted the female suspect walking through the parking lot and stopped and made contact. The woman was identified as 27-year-old Desiree A Sorrow. When police did a pat-down search of Sorrow, she was found to have a knife in her pocket. The security officer at the store verified that Sorrow was not the suspect who pulled a knife on him according to the report. Officers would also find drug paraphernalia and heroin in her possession.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adversal-468×60″]

When questioned at the scene, Sorrow told officers that “she and the male entered the store together but parted ways once doing so,” APD reported. Sorrow went on to tell officers that she had no idea hat the male suspect did while he was in the store.

APD would find that Sorrow had an existing warrant for failing to appear for a pre-trial conference in a previous shoplifting case. She was arrested for the existing warrant and further charged with Robbery I, Hindering Prosecution I, Theft III, and Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance IV.

Police say they are still seeking the male who has yet to be identified. They report that they have no suspect description to release.
