Body of 89-Year-Old Interior Man Found in Elliot Highway Wreckage

An 89-year-old man was found deceased inside of his truck down a steep embankment near mile 24 of the Elliot Highway on Monday by a family member searching the area for him on Monday night, it was reported by the trooper dispatch on Tueday.

According to the report, 89-year-old Robert “Andy” O’Grady was reported missing by his daughter, Rose O’Grady, on Saturday, after he failed to return home after driving to visit friends at the Ice Park on Phillips Field Road on Friday evening in his 2009 Chevy Silverado.

The troopers in Fairbanks immediately issued an Alaska Silver Alert for the man who was known to suffer from Alzheimers.

On Monday, O’Grady’s friend was searching along the Elliot Highway when the friend came upon his truck, over-turned down a steep embankment. O’Grady was discovered inside the upside-down vehicle.

Troopers responded to the scene and began their investigation and the State Medical Examiner’s office took possession of O’Grady’s remains for autopsy.
