Troopers and Fire Marshals are investigating a fire after troopers received a report of an assault on a resident on Burton Road in the community of Ester.
Troopers received a call at 9:40 pm on Saturday from an Ester resident informing them that a neighbor had pointed a weapon at him during a confrontation at his home. The caller reported that the suspect had fired a round into his home during the confrontation.
Troopers and members of the Northern Special Emergency Reaction Team, with a Tactical Response Vehicle, responded to the scene. Officers searched “a residence where the suspect was believed to have been hiding. The suspect was not located at the scene.” the trooper dispatch reports.
Approximately 7 hours later, at 5:30 am, Alaska State Troopers in Fairbanks were notified that the house that they had searched earlier in an attempt to locate the assault suspect, was now ablaze.
Although the Ester Volunteer Fire Department responded and doused the fire, the structure was deemed uninhabitable. A check of the destroyed home was searched and no one was found in the debris.
A State Deputy Fire Marshal responded to the scene to investigate the fire and that investigation is on-going.
Troopers are asking that anyone with information on the assault or the fire to please contact them at 451-5100.
The community of Ester is located on the outskirts of Fairbanks just to the northwest.
