Wasilla Driver Charged with Eluding after Chase, Felon Passenger with Weapons Charges

trooper road accidentFollowing an attempt to pull over a vehicle for a moving violation near mile 12 of Knik Goose Bay Road on Saturday, the vehicle sped away from troopers, the trooper dispatch reported.

After a short pursuit, the vehicle came to a stop. When it did so, a passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot. After a foot pursuit, the passenger, a male identified as Heman Matthews, was taken into custody. When subdued, the 29-year-old Wasilla man was found to be in possession of two concealable firearms on his person. 

Further investigation found that Matthews was a convicted felon and had two $5,000 warrants for his arrest for the original charges of Theft II and Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance. Matthew was additionally charged with Misconduct Involving Weapons.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 18-year-old Kelly Lauer of Wasilla. As a result of the incident, Lauer was charged with Eluding II.

Both suspects were transported to Palmer and remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
